MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Ouachita softball team lost Thursday's road series opener to Southern Arkansas 4-1 on a walk-off home run at Dawson Field.
The Tigers were handed their second loss in Great American Conference action and dropped to 8-10 overall. Ouachita took its lone lead in the second inning after redshirt-senior Remington Adams laced a leadoff triple to right field, then later scored on a double-steal attempt. With runners on the corners in the bottom of the second, SAU sophomore AvaMarie Perry hit into a fielder's choice, but beat out the double play to level the score.
Ouachita threatened in the sixth after the first two pinch-hitters reached base, but the Tigers were limited to just two hits and could not generate another run against Southern Arkansas. Sophomore Catie Amador pitched 6.1 innings in the loss. SAU senior Maddie Leal led off the seventh with a double down the left field line. Sophomore Parker Rodgers took over in relief and retired the first two batters she faced, but ultimately allowed a walk-off 3-run homer to SAU senior Paris Endris.
The Tigers and Muleriders continue their series with a doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Dawson Field in Magnolia.
