Box Score 4 DALLAS, Tex.- The Ouachita Tigers (0-4) took a trip to Dallas this past weekend, facing off against Angelo State (4-0) at a neutral site setting. The Tigers fought hard, but were unable to steal a game from the Rams, falling in all four games to kick off the season.
Game 1 saw the Tigers falling by a score of 14-4.
Kurt Peppenhorst took the mound for the Tigers, but struggled to keep Angelo State off of the bases and eventually was credited with a loss. The Tigers only recorded six hits over the nine inning game, scoring all four of their runs in the seventh inning. Angelo State had an early surge, with six runs on the board by the fourth inning, and didn't let up, continuing their impressive offensive showing and finishing with 14 runs for the game.
In the second game, the Tigers hed the Rams to only two runs but were unable to capitalize on the solid pitching performance of
Davis Ward. Ward recorded four strikeouts in the game, pitching six innings. The Tigers had six hits in the game, but were unable to send anyone across the plate, meaning the difference in the 2-0 loss.
In the third match-up of the weekend, the Tigers again lost a fairly close game to the Rams, falling by a score of 4-1 and dropping their overall record to 0-3.
Ryan Westover took the mound for the Tigers in the game, pitching six innings while only giving up seven hits. Ouachita was hurt by a three-run second inning for the Rams, ultimately spelling the difference in the game for the teams.
Ouachita took the field on Sunday for the fourth game of the weekend series, but again, the Rams offense posted an impressive performance. The Tigers were unable to match the Rams' 16 runs and fell to 0-4 after a 16-3 loss.
Josh Everett took the loss for the Tigers, pitching 3.1 innings and giving up eight runs, seven of which were earned. Angelo State posted a seven run fourth inning, three run fifth inning and a four run sixth inning, downing the Tigers for the fourth time and ending the weekend series in a tough manner for the Tigers.
The Tigers look to rebound from their tough weekend with Angelo State on Saturday, when they travel to North Alabama for a match-up with their former Gulf South Conference foes. Saturday's games against the Lions are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will consist of a seven inning game followed by a nine inning game.
