Box Score 3 ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- To cap off the regular season, the Ouachita Tigers (26-24, 12-12 GAC) traveled across the street for a three game series with rival Henderson State (23-25, 11-13 GAC). The Tigers looked unstoppable on Saturday, taking both games during the day by scores of 10-7 and 8-5, but the Reddies bounced back on Sunday, posting a 12-2 victory over the Tigers.
In the first game of the series, Ouachita took a 10-7 win.
Ryan Westover started the game for the Tigers, but struggled, giving up 10 hits and seven runs before
Kurt Peppenhorst came in and took the victory, throwing three innings of no-hit baseball and only allowing a base runner when he gave up a walk.
Zac Treece took the save in the game, pitching an inning and not giving up any hits, runs, or walks and recording two strikeouts. Only two players finished the game without an RBI for the Tigers, while
Parker Norris and
Landon Flax both finished the game with two RBI's. One of Flax's hits in the game was a double en route to a 2-of-3 performance. Dustin Hudson took the loss for the Reddies, pitching 1.1 innings and giving up five hits and four runs, all of which were earned.
In the second game of the weekend, Ouachita took an 8-5 victory behind the offensive performance of
Duncan Collins, who finished the game with a 2-of-4 performance from the plate, knocking in four RBi's and recording a double.
Zac Treece took the victory on the mound for the Tigers, pitching 3.2 innings and only giving up two hits and no runs in relief of starting pitcher
Davis Ward.
McCrae Jones finished the game with a 3-of-5 performance from the plate, adding three RBI's for the Tigers. Blake Evans was given the loss for Henderson State, pitching two innings and giving up three hits and three runs.
The Reddies answered on Sunday afternoon, capturing a 12-2 victory in a game in which the Tigers only scored in the top of the ninth inning. Ouachita finished the game with 10 hits, but weren't able to string them together. Brittain Diamond took the win for the Reddies, throwing 7.2 innings and holding the Tigers to two runs. He recorded five strikeouts during the game as well.
Josh Everett took the loss for the Tigers, giving up seven hits and seven runs in just 3.1 innings pitched.
Landon Flax and
Clayton Brandt recorded the only RBI's of the day for the Tigers.
Ouachita heads to the Great American Conference tournament this weekend after capturing fifth place in conference play during the regular season. They will play their first game of the tournament on Friday at 3:30 p.m. against No. 2 seeded Southeastern Oklahoma State. The tournament will be a double-elimination tournament.
