ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- After the first game of the Ouachita Tigers' (8-6-1, 4-2 GAC) series with the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State (5-6, 2-4 GAC) was forced to be played Saturday morning, the teams still had two more games to be played. The Tigers took the nine inning game by a final score of 3-0 before a late rally in the second game fell short and resulted in a 6-5 loss to Southeastern.
In their 3-0 victory, the Tigers used two runs in the first and another in the fourth to push them to victory.
Ouachita's
Keegan Ghidotti opened up the scoring with a RBI double to center field that scored
Matt Balogh.
Will Wallace added to the Tiger advantage two batters later, knocking a RBI single to left field and scoring Ghidotti.
The last run of the game from either team came in the fourth inning, when
Landon Moore notched an RBI single to right field, scoring
Chris Tavares and giving the Tigers what you might call a comfortable lead.
The Savage Storm were never able to put anything together, only recording four hits in the game and not even crossing home plate.
Davis Ward took the win with a complete game, six-strikeout performance, only giving up four hits in the game.
In their second game of the day, the Tigers dropped a tough 6-5 decision.
Southeastern struck first this time, with a RBI double from Josh Smith that scored Aaron Chalk in the second inning. They then stretched their lead to three with a 2 RBI double to left center from Troy Caraway.
The Tigers rallied back and answered in the bottom of the third though, not only tying the game, but taking the lead.
Duncan Collins got the scoring started with a single to center field that scored
Parker Norris.
Chris Tavares knocked a 2 RBI double to right center, scoring
Duncan Collins and
Matt Balogh and tying the game. The last run of the inning came on a RBI single from Moore, who scored Tavares on the play and took a 4-3 lead for the Tigers.
Southeastern's fifth inning scores did the Tigers in though, as they posted a three run inning behind a sacrifice fly and an error from Ouachita that allowed another pair of runs to score and gave the Savage Storm a 6-4 lead.
Ouachita would score another run in the bottom of the seventh, when
Chris Tavares knocked a sacrifice fly to right field and scored Collins, but they were unable to plate another runner.
Josh Everett took the loss after giving up five earned runs in five innings of work.
Ben Gielow came in as a relief pitcher and only gave up two hits in two innings of work, but the Tiger offense couldn't provide the runs they needed for a comeback.
Ouachita returns to the diamond on Friday, March 1, when they host Southern Arkansas for a conference series. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, followed by a double-header on Saturday that will kick off at noon.
