Hatcher has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II women's soccer. Representatives from both Ouachita Athletics and the Great American Conference spoke proudly of Haley's contributions on and off the field.
"Haley is the embodiment of the term student-athlete," Ouachita athletic director
David Sharp said. "Her success on the field and in the classroom is special and I'm so pleased to see her efforts being recognized on a national level."
GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt added, "I can't think of anyone more deserving than Haley to earn this honor. She's definitely one of the most dominating players on the field and incredible students in the classroom that I've encountered during my career. Congratulations to Haley and what a great honor for her and the Ouachita women's soccer program."
A mass communications major with a 4.00 G.P.A., Hatcher is a three-time Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Year. A forward, she led the Tigers to an 11-7 record as a senior, finishing with 19 goals and two assists for 40 points while starting all 18 matches.
Hatcher finished 2015 with a flurry of goals, scoring 14 in the final eight games of the season. Tigers' head coach
Kevin Wright praised the hard work Hatcher put into this season.
"I cannot speak highly enough about Haley," Wright said. "She is a young lady that works tirelessly to continue to get better. Haley is the most prepared player I have ever coached, she deserves every recognition that is awarded to her."
The native of Maumelle, Arkansas, is a three-time first team All-GAC selection and was named the GAC Offensive Player of the Week seven times in her career. Her 55 goals in 56 games are a GAC record and she ranks third among active Division II players in goals per game and fourth in points per game. She finished with 118 career points.
Hatcher has been named Ouachita Baptist's Female Student Athlete of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year twice. In addition, she was a 2014 Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association third team All-American and was selected to the 2014 NSCAA Scholar All-South Region Team.
