Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Baptist baseball team split the opening two games against Southern Nazarene on Sunday afternoon, 7-2 and 2-5.
Ouachita (4-10, 1-4 GAC) came into Sunday's games holding a 13-2 all-time series lead against Southern Nazarene (5-7, 1-4 GAC). Since the 2013 season the Tigers baseball team had outscored the Crimson Strom 63-7 inside the confines of Rab Rodgers Field.
The first game of the double-header went to Ouachita as they increased their win streak to seven games over the Crimson Storm. Southern Nazarene flipped the script by winning the second game of the double-header. The win gave the Crimson Storm their first conference win of the season.
GAME ONE: SNU 2, OUACHITA 7
Southern Nazarene got on the board with an RBI double by Cole Lee to give the Crimson Storm a 1-0 lead.
The Ouachita bats exploded in the first inning of Sunday's game.
Jakahari Howell (Arkadelphia, Ark.) led off the game with a solo homerun to left center field to tie the game at 1-1. Two batters later Tyler Riebock (Rockwall, Texas) hit a solo homerun of his own to give the Tigers the advantage.
Kyle Alexander (Conway, Ark.) came around to score on a wild pitch and Aaron Studdard (Denton, Texas) hit an RBI single to end the scoring for the Tigers in the inning.
When it was all said and done the Tigers had batted around in the first inning, producing 4 runs off 5 hits.
The Crimson Storm picked up their second run of the game on a wild pitch thrown by JF Matros (Arakdelphia, Ark.) in the top of the fifth inning.
The Tigers tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings with RBI singles from Logan Huneycutt (Arkadelphia, Ark.) and
Preston Speers (McKinney, Texas). Studdard doubled to right field with his second RBI of the day.
Studdard was the top hitter for the Tigers going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's in the game. Alexander finished the first game 3-for-4 with a pair of runs in the game.
John Franklin Matros (Arkadelphia, Ark.) picked up his first win of the season after a seven inning outing. Matros struck out 8 batters in the contest.
GAME TWO: SNU 5, OUACHITA 2
In the night cap of the double-header the Ouachita Tigers baseball team lost to Southern Nazarene for the first time in eight games.
The Crimson Storm scored runs in the opening three innings of the second game on Sunday evening.
Tyler Duck (Flower Mound, Texas) started the game for the Tigers and ran into trouble in the opening frame. With runners on the corners and one out in the inning, Cole Lee laid down the perfect bunt up the first base line to score the game's first run. Unfortunately, for the Tigers it was Duck's last batter as he left the game with an injury.
The Tigers got out of the inning down by only a run, but in the top of the second inning, Jake Vernon homered to centerfield to give the Crimson Storm a 2-run cushion over the Tigers. Southern Nazarene added a run in the third inning to make it 3-0.
Ouachita began to respond offensively in the third and fourth innings. The Tigers scored on two wild pitches to pull within a run of the Crimson Storm.
Southern Nazarene put the game out of reach with two runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Cade McBride (Prosper, Texas) was the top hitter for the Tigers in game two with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
The Tigers and Crimson Storm will conclude their series tomorrow afternoon at Rab Rodgers Field. First-pitch is set for 2 p.m.
