Ouachita Squeaks out Series Win against East Central

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2  ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The battle of the Tigers went down to the final few innings in both contest's on Saturday afternoon; East Central won the first game 11-10 before Ouachita took the second game 7-6.

The win on Saturday gave Ouachita (10-17, 6-9 GAC) their fifth series win against East Central (2-21, 1-14 GAC) in six years.

Game One: Ouachita 10, East Central 11
The East Central Tigers took out their offensive struggles on Ouachita starting pitcher Adam Bahloul in the opening frames of the contest. With the bases loaded and two outs in the inning, Ouachita appeared to be out of the inning. Ryan White struck out swinging but reached first on the wild pitch by Bahloul. The wild pitch also allowed Bryce Dimitroff to score the games first run.

The next batter Bahloul had another chance to end the inning but instead threw the ball away allowing two more runs to score for East Central.

East Central scored their fourth and fifth runs of the game by wild pitch in the top of the second inning. White singled to right field to bring in East Central's first earned run of the contest. Bahloul was pulled after the RBI single. The senior hurler lasted just 1.2 innings, giving up 6 runs off 68 pitches.

Ouachita was held scoreless until the bottom of the third inning. Kyle Alexander (Conway, Ark.) hit an RBI single to center field to bring in Ouachita's first run of the contest.
East Central tacked on an extra run in the top of the fourth with a solo homerun. Ouachita answered with an Aaron Studdard sacrifice fly.

Ouachita trailed 9-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Ouachita started a two-out rally to get back in the game. Tyler Riebock reached on an error by the third basemen to keep the inning alive and to load up the bases. Alexander then hit a 2-RBI single to left field to bring the Tigers within four runs. Riebock came around to score on a failed pick-off attempt by the East Central pitcher.

East Central added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to make the game a 10-6 affair. Riebock came through with a clutch hit in the bottom half of the inning to bring Ouachita within a run of East Central.

Preston Speers tied the game at 10 with a solo homerun over the left centerfield fence in the bottom of the eighth.

Trevor Crone hit the go-ahead RBI double to give East Central the advantage in the top of the ninth inning. Ouachita's ninth inning rally fell short as they left a runner stranded at third base.

The win for East Central snapped a 20-game losing streak and was their first Great American Conference win of the season.  

Game Two: Ouachita 7, East Central 6
Ouachita's offense came alive in the bottom of the first inning. Speers hit a sacrifice fly to right field to start the scoring in game two. Cade McBride homered to left in the next at-bat to put Ouachita up 3-0 going into the second inning.

East Central responded with a four run second inning. Down by a run in the bottom half of the second, Alexander and Riebock put the team on their back and drove in three-RBI's in the inning.

East Central stuck around and slowly but surely tied the game up at six in the top of the fifth inning.

With one-out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Kyle Alexander was pegged during his at-bat. Alexander did not take kindly to it as a benches clearing brawl ensued between the two squads. When the fight had cleared, East Central had four players ejected and Alexander was the only player ejected for Ouachita.

Chandler Blake hit a one out double in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Ouachita in scoring position. Steen for the third time this week came through with a clutch hit to right field to give Ouachita the go-ahead run.

Bo Sutton shut the door in the top of the seventh inning to give Ouachita the series victory.

Ouachita will travel to Lyon College on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2 p.m
