Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech scored 7 runs in the final two innings of play as they came from behind to defeat Ouachita Baptist 7-6 on Friday night.
Ouachita's (4-13, 1-6 GAC) offense cranked out a season high 15 hits in the loss to Arkansas Tech (9-6, 4-3 GAC).
The Tigers got on the board in the first inning,
Kyle Alexander (Conway, Ark.) singled to the shortstop to score Tyler Riebock (Rockwall, Texas) from third base.
A few innings went by until the Tigers offense struck again.
Jakahari Howell (Arkadelphia, Ark.) singled through the hole between the shortstop and third basemen to score a run for the Tigers. Ouachita was not done scoring though as Riebock singled through the right side of the infield to put the Tigers up 3-0.
Ouachita led 3-0 going into the bottom of the eighth inning. A pair of Tech runners reached on fielding errors by Alexander and Riebock to begin the inning. Mark Vaughn then singled in two runs and brought the Wonder Boys within a run of the Tigers. That did not last long though as Kyle Gibbs blasted a 3-run homer to give Tech a 2-run lead.
Howell doubled to right field to begin the 9
th inning. Riebock singled up the middle to bring the Tigers back within a run of Tech. With two-outs in the inning,
Preston Speers (McKinney, Texas) doubled in
Austin White (Arkadelphia, Ark.) to tie the game at 5-5.
Ty Owens (El Dorado, Ark.) doubled in the next at-bat to give Ouachita a crucial 6-5 advantage going into the bottom of the inning.
The Tigers needed just three-outs to secure their second conference win of the season. Ouachita turned a double play and were within an out of escaping with the win. Ben Miller (Lewisville, Texas) came in to close out the game.
Patrick Miner entered the game as a pinch hitter and crushed a homerun to tie the game at 6. Seth Wheeler then entered as a pinch hitter and kept the inning alive with a two-out double. Cody Wescott singled up the middle in the next at-bat to give Tech the come from behind win.
Riebock was the top hitter for the Tigers as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of RBI's in the game. J.F. Matros (Arkadelphia, Ark.) pitched a gem of a game. The senior pitcher went 7.1 innings and only allowed 1 earned run in the contest.
The Tigers and the Wonder Boys will play tomorrow afternoon at 1 and 3 p.m.
