Mustangs Corral Tigers Offense in Late Innings

Box Score CONWAY, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers baseball team held a 9-0 lead on Central Baptist heading into the bottom of the third; the Mustangs silenced the Tigers offense the final six innings to pick up the 12-9 victory on Tuesday afternoon.  

The Tigers offense got off to an explosive start in the first inning, thanks to an Austin White (Arkadelphia, Ark.) two-run homerun. It was White's second homerun of the season and it helped Ouachita take the early momentum within the game.

Louis Steen (Southaven, Miss.) added to the Tigers lead with a solo homerun in the top of the second inning. It was the freshman's first career homerun as the Tigers led 3-0 going into the top of the third inning.

The exploded in the third inning with six runs off five hits. Ouachita batted around as White hit his second two-run homer of the afternoon to catapult the momentum in the Tigers favor. By innings end the Tigers held a 9-0 advantage over Central Baptist.

The Mustangs started a rally of their own in the bottom half of the third. Central Baptist scored four runs off three hits to make it a 9-4.

Noah Fowler (Little Rock, Ark.) replaced Sheldon McCown (Nacogdoches, Texas) in the fourth inning. Fowler ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Mustangs scored three runs to climb within a pair of runs.

Bo Sutton (Collierville, Tenn.) relieved Carter Wade (Little Rock, Ark.) in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Mustangs jumped all over the junior hurler as they scored three runs before the first out of the inning was made. Luke Scaggs (Frisco, Texas) came in to finish out the inning for the Tigers but not before Central Baptist had taken an 11-9 lead.

The Mustangs tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning as they shut down the Tigers offense in the final innings of the game.

White was the offensive player of the game for the Tigers as he went 2-for-3 at the plate with 4 runs batted in.

Sutton was credited with his third loss of the season after he gave up 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Tigers will face off against Great American Conference foe Harding University on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
