MIDLOTHIAN, Texas – Ouachita Tiger's Men's Tennis Team continues their hot start to the season as they defeat St. Mary's (Texas) 4-3.
Th Tigers used their second game in a row in Texas to pick up their third win and a record of 3-0.
The Tigers competed well in the doubles matchups but fell two out of three games. In the first matchup
Juan Moncada and
Francisco Oliveira faced off against Gonzalez and Popovic of St. Mary's. The team from St. Edwards would defeat the Tigers in the tiebreaker winning 7-6.
The number two team for the Tigers,
Dan Kaplun and
Santiago Kearney, would fall to their opponents by a score of 6-2. Ouachita would bounce back as
Nair Adi and
Tobias Fuerschuss would win their matchup 6-4. The Tigers would enter singles play being down 1-0 to St. Mary's.
Juan Moncada drew the number one slot for the third straight match as he faced off against Gonzalez of St. Mary's. After dropping the first set 1-6, Moncada would battle back but fall in the end 6-1, 7-5.
Santiago Kearney would follow suit in the second slot facing off against Popovic. Kearney would lose the first set, win the second but lose the tie breaker for a final score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-7.
The Tigers would enter the 3-6 part of their lineup trailing St. Mary's 3-0. Freshman
Francisco Oliveira would secure a win for the Tigers as he defeated his St. Mary's opponent 6-3,7-5. In the fourth position
Dan Kaplun would jump out early on the Rattlers and would close out the win on a final of 6-2, 7-5.
Drawing the fifth hole
Nair Adi would battle hard against Brown of St. Mary's. Adi would win in consecutive sets 6-2, 6-1. Freshman
Tobias Fuerschuss would close out the match for the Tigers in a winner takes all match against St. Mary's. As the game entered the tiebreaker the Tigers and Rattlers were tied. Tobias won the third set on a score of 7-5 to give him and the Tigers the victory.
The Tigers will return to action Sunday February 10 at 10:00 AM against the University of West Alabama in Midlothian, Texas.
