RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Francisco Oliveira and Tobias Fuerschuss won flights to highlight the individual performances for the Ouachita Baptist University men's tennis team at the Great American Conference Fall Championships held this past weekend in Russellville.
Oliveira and Fuerschuss won Flight 1 and Flight 3, respectively, of the men's singles bracket, while Fernando Docters reached the finals of Flight 2. In total, the Tigers had three competitors reach the men's singles finals and two reach the consolation final with Seth Hernandez winning.
In the Flight 1 bracket, Oliveira defeated Sander Jens of Southern Arkansas 6-7, 7-6, and 10-8 in the finals of Flight 1. In Flight 2, Docters lost in his final to SAU's Ole Valkyser 6-2,7-5. Tobias Fuerschuss was the Flight 3 champion with a 6-2, 6-4 win over SAU's Sofiane Bah.
Tigers Matias Parzajuk and Seth Hernandez reached the finals of their respective consolation flights. Hernandez won his consolation flight 8-2.
"The results reflected the work we have put in to this point," coach Craig Ward said. "This is our third tournament in three weeks. We looked fit and match tough. We have a lot to work on but this is a solid start. At this point, I am not disappointed."
The Tigers will travel to Edmond, Oklahoma this weekend to compete in the ITA Regional Championships. The winner advances to the ITA Small College Championships in Rome, Georgia.
