Ouachita Athletics Hall of Fame
W.I. "Bill" Walton was born in Benton, Ark. in 1900. He played end on the Benton State Championship team of 1918.
He played halfback at Ouachita from 1921-1924 under OBU Hall of Famer Morley Jennngs.
Walton went on to serve as head coach at Fordyce for four years where he produced a record of 46-8-2 and a State Championship in 1930. He then spent six years as head coach at El Dorado compiling a record of 51-9-4.
During his time as a high school coach, Walton coached the likes of Paul "Bear " Bryant and "Schoolboy" Rowe.
In 1934, Walton returned to Ouachita as head football coach. Over nine years he produced championship teams, compiling a record of 49-30-0. His Tiger teams outscored their opponents 1279 - 596.
Walton was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1973.    Â
