Ouachita Athletics Hall of Fame
Lance Cansdale, a native of Vancouver, Canada, was a two-time All-America selection while competing as a Tiger swimmer from 1983-85.
Cansdale was instrumental in leading the Tigers to their first-ever AIC championship in swimming in 1985. At one time he held 12 pool records and was Ouachita’s first individual national champion in the 1,650 freestyle. His 500 yard freestyle time of 4:45.85 in 1985 held on as the best mark in the history of the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference, which went defunct in 1995.
Cansdale later had great success in coaching swimming, being named NAIA Coach of the Year in 1991 at Simon Fraser University and leading his women’s team to a national championship.
