Ouachita Athletics Hall of Fame
William Miller was the one of the best running backs in Ouachita history, and only needed two seasons to rack up 3,813 rushing yards, which was third in school history at the time of his career coming to an end. He started his time with the Tigers as a receiver, but moved to running back for the final two seasons of his career.
Miller held the Ouachita record for career rushing touchdowns for more than 40 seasons with 42. As of the 2023 season, Miller was in the top 10 of four career offensive record categories at Ouachita. His 1978 total of 1,668 rushing yards was the school record for more than 40 seasons as well.Â
The Rison, Arkansas native was a three-time All-AIC first-team selection and was named a first-team NAIA All-American in 1978 after leading the nation in rushing and scoring. After his time at Ouachita, he was signed by the Atlanta Falcons and later played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League for 10 years. During that time, he was twice named a CFL All-Star and earned CFL Rookie of the Year honors in 1980.
Miller passed away January 3, 2019.
